hello first of all i would like to greet your hard work all of the members , then i have question
how can i configure rhel 6 to be ldap client without using the tls , asl i did and even i can see the info of the users that are on the server using the following command
ldapsearch -x uid=username
i can see the information , but when i'm tryin to su - username that are on the ldap server , it replies with "su: user mrefat does not exist"
note i changed the information that are in the nsswitch.confg to use the files then ldap
so please anyone can help me to login ,
asl when i tested to configure rhel 5 with the same information . it is working fine without any problems ,
Did you join the RHEL system to the domain? Did you change the authentication mechanism from local to LDAP or kerberos or network whatever option is available? I guess there is a graphical utility to manage it : system-config-authentication
yes i used this utility system-config-authentication it ask about using tls , and i dont have certificates so i used form the command like authconfig-tui , it do the same task ... so regards to the first part of your comment what can i doo ???? to change this settings , i'm also followed this tutorial http://server-world.info/en/note?os=CentOS_6&p=ldap&f=2
Have you tried contacting RH for the support? If you are using RHEL you should be able to use their support.
I would say if your configuration is fine, it should work. I dont have much experience with LDAP. All I have ever used is authenticating users in windows active directory using kerberos and samba and it works fine. But I think you need to change the nsswitch.conf file to change the authentication mechanism priority. I had issues with authentication when I had not changed nsswitch.conf
yours is a technical question and can be moved in some technical forum like newbie. I have reported it to be moved to appropriate forum so that you get better solutions from someone more experienced in LDAP.
