RewriteEngine gzip Accelerator Vs. Memory and Load

Hello Fellows,
Servers Geeks and Experts..

Recently, I have put a website on production..
The server running that website built with:
  • CentOS 5.4 (32)
  • Apache 2.2.3
  • PHP PHP 5.1.6 (cli), Zend Engine v2.1.0
  • MySQL 5.0.77

The main application, or let's name it the website platform has the Rewrite, and gzip accelerator option..

I'm concerned about this Rewrite Engine, as well as gzip accelerator whether to enable them or not?

My Question is, would usually Rewrite Engine or gzip cause High Load, or High Memory Consumption?

I can't judge now, since the server isn't loaded enough to judge..
But, the initial results aren't so free of worry, And very soon this server will be hard-rocking loads..

Code:
# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 512 333 178 0 0 0
-/+ buffers/cache: 333 178
Swap: 0 0 0

Code:
# ps -A | grep httpd | wc -l
13
<< Sometime it snaps to 30 and 40

Code:
# top (sorted by SHIFT + M)
