Question Reverse proxy

Currently we are using squid for reverse proxying. It is turning out to be hard to manage with too many complex syntax. I was wondering what alternatives are there to replace squid for reverse proxying, simplicity and performance being the key factors.

How about HAProxy? It is not a all in one solution like apache or nginx. Rather something designed specifically for proxy.
