Remote syslog usage with HOSTNAMES
Hello everybody.
I'm sending the syslogd information from several linux servers to a centralized one. My problem might be trivial, but I really need to get the HOSTNAME of the server who's sending the message; Debian and Ubuntu distributions are sending the correct HOSTNAME, but the other ones (RedHat, SuSe and Slackware) are just sending the IP address instead. Do you know why some distros can send their own HOSTNAME and some others can't. Thanks in advance for your help! With regards, Ezequiel |
Their syslogd is simply too old ;) Fedora 8 now ships rsyslog, from which you will get hostnames. And to the best of my knowledge you can install it on the other distro's, too, doing this will solve your issue.
