Reinstalling rpm if its broken?

I'm running OpenSuse 13.2 and something has gone very wrong.
If I try to run rpm or zypper to install files I get:

Code:
rpm: error while loading shared libraries: liblua.so.5.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The file does exist in the /usr/lib64 directory.

Code:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     13 Nov 20 09:31 /usr/lib64/liblua5.1.so.0 -> liblua.so.5.1
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 197176 Sep 25 10:06 /usr/lib64/liblua.so.5.1
I think there might be some dependencies broken. Any idea how to fix this or reinstall rpm if rpm is broken?

is this a new fresh install of 13.2

or did you upgrade 13.1 to 13.2

if a upgrade
the easiest and fast way to fix it is reinstall with 13.2

Normally .1,.2,.3 upgrades are no issue with suse
BUT!!!
13.2 is the start of a new way of handling the support cycle

it IS really a MAJOR upgrade and not a normal minor upgrade

i FUBAR'ed my 13.2 install by upgrading from 13.1 to 13.2
there were just WAY TOO MANY issues to even try to fix

fortunately the OS is on a different partition than my home and all the rest of the software -- the "/" partition is isolated and allows for easy replacement

but as to lua5
force a reinstall
Code:
su -
zypper in -f lua lua-devel

Its a upgrade from 13.1 to 13.2

I tried running zypper/rpm/yast - all give the same error. Unable to force a install either.

Its not looking good. I've got a backup of all the configs etc so I think its looking like a rebuild.

you will also NOT be able to save most of the config files in your home folder

save settings
but manually re-import them

also firefox 33 is a MAJOR change

actually you may try to unpack the package and try use that library (without installing), but I think that will not solve anything....

Also you can use a rescue kernel to install the missing libs
