Red Hat rpm will work in RHEL5???
Hi All,
I am installing Oracle 10g on RHEL 5. In pre requirement it requires few rpm’s as shown below.
[root@localhost rpm]# rpm -q binutils compat-db control-center gcc gcc-c++ glibc glibc-common gnome-libs libstdc++ libstdc++-devel make pdksh sysstat xscreensaver
binutils-2.17.50.0.6-2.el5
compat-db-4.2.52-5.1
control-center-2.16.0-14.el5
gcc-4.1.1-52.el5
gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5
glibc-2.5-12
glibc-common-2.5-12
package gnome-libs is not installed
libstdc++-4.1.1-52.el5
libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5
make-3.81-1.1
pdksh-5.2.14-36.el5
package sysstat is not installed
package xscreensaver is not installed
I have searched a lot on internet but didn’t get xscreensaver, sysstat and gnome-lib for RHEL5.

Have you searched the Red Hat Network (RHN) site? I assume you have a RHEL licence so you should have a RHN login.

Hi,
You can try centos RPMS here:
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/
Would suggest you to install centos5 if you are not using RHEL Licensed Version.
CentOS is a community-supported, mainly free software operating system based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
CentOS developers use Red Hat's source code to create a final product very similar to Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Red Hat's branding and logos are changed because Red Hat does not allow them to be redistributed.

If you are "not having license", the you SHOULD NOT BE USING RHEL. Load CentOS instead.
The CentOS RPM's may work, but really...RHEL with no license has ZERO support/patches/upgrades/security-fixes. CentOS is FREE, and you get all that, and wouldn't have to try to figure out work-arounds because you're running software you didn't pay for.

This is a good example of how not to prepare an enterprise (pre-production?) server. With few exceptions, you install "base system" packages from the distro's repositories. In RHEL's case, that would mean you install from the RHN channel(s). Clean and simple. If you start forcing installations of packages that were not built for your OS/version, it's only a matter of time until you end up with a borked system.
