Recommended shared memory on Red hat 6.1 64bit
Hi
I have Linux Red Hat 6.1 which is used for Oracle 11g, the DBA wants to enable Automatic Memory Management (AMM) for 5 database instances. The current size of the shared memory is 32G with 1% used. The question is how much of that can be used to allocate to AMM? and how much needs to remain on the OS? Thanks |
I think that you could go quite high. Depending if there is some other services running on that machine that could consume RAM.
I would go for maybe 24Gb to be on the safe side? /Lux |
yes, actually it depends on your needs, I would go as high as possible (as long the system will not slow down or have some strange performance or stability problems)

Keep in mind that Oracle typically performs better with HugePages. Especially with a large SGA. AMM and huge pages unfortunately don't work too well together.
