Recommendation - MDADM SATA 4 port controller

Greetings all.

I was after a brand/model recommendation for a 4 port SATA controller to run with MDADM, on a new linux build I am putting together, so no hardware raid functions needed.

I am planning to build an 8 HDD x 8TB RAID 6 system, probably with Debian or Ubuntu.

I have also been look at 8TB HDD, always been a little partial towards WD and was looking at the WD80EFZX, while the NAS firmware is useless with MDADM the drive look reliable.
Wasn't keen on Seagate as I have always had issues reading some of the SMART values with smartmontools, at least with the 2TB HDD I build my last RAID 6 system on.

Recommendation would be welcome, experience welcome.

M.

Yes I was leaning towards an LSI 9217-8i. I think from what I have read it looks a reasonable card, once you flash it into IT mode.

Cheers.
