Ram Disk to enhance flash drive's life; What files do I need to worry about?

Generally speaking, I was wondering what files or directories are frequently read or written while a Linux computer is sitting idle (forget the intended tasks, I'm wondering more about background processes)?

The reason I ask is because I am going to install Ubuntu-server on a pc with a compact flash hard drive. If there is a directory that is frequently read from and written to, I figured I could write a script that copied it's contents to a ramdisk upon booting and then copy the ramdisk's contents back into place on shutdown. Thus reducing the read/write cycles on that section of the flash drive (thus increasing the flash drive's life).

your thoughts?

Other than that, it depends heavily on what you are doing with the box

The contents of /var and /tmp change alot, but they can get pretty big.
