Ram Disk to enhance flash drive's life; What files do I need to worry about?
Generally speaking, I was wondering what files or directories are frequently read or written while a Linux computer is sitting idle (forget the intended tasks, I'm wondering more about background processes)?
The reason I ask is because I am going to install Ubuntu-server on a pc with a compact flash hard drive. If there is a directory that is frequently read from and written to, I figured I could write a script that copied it's contents to a ramdisk upon booting and then copy the ramdisk's contents back into place on shutdown. Thus reducing the read/write cycles on that section of the flash drive (thus increasing the flash drive's life). your thoughts? |

Other than that, it depends heavily on what you are doing with the box
The contents of /var and /tmp change alot, but they can get pretty big. |
