raid create by uuid

thinking about a new home server, i like the uuid system of keeping drives in stable locations.

i would like to set up lvm2 over raid5 on the drives i put in it, being poor, there's a chance i'll need to get it right the first time, no screwups, no cash for new parts for a good while. in many locations there's a note to not use uuid for mounting the array, fine, i'll create the arrays by uuid.

the manpage alludes to the possibility of creating the array with "uuid=blahblaa" "uuid=blahblab", instead of /dev/sda /dev/sdb, so it should be possible, just not terribly clear if that's all i need to change for it to work.

No worries; its purely a SW thing; you can't break the HW doing that.
Just read up eg http://tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/

more that i'd need lots of cash for new drives if i've been using the array a while, and need a safe place to move stuff to while i reconfigure, it's way more important when i only have one array. i vaguely remember that lvm can shrink dynamically by moving stuff to another physical drive in the volume, i'd prefer to only need occasional replacements for dead drives, but i spose, when i add a new array i can always rework the old one.

still, if i know an array can be built from drives listed by uuid i wouldn't have to go the mountpoint location route, and have to rebuild them by uuid later.
