Can anyone point me to the current offerings for RAID?
I run Slackware on all my systems, so would like to continue with Slackware, but it is not essential.
I have several SSDs which I can use for cache on one of the raid servers. Size wise, I am considering something like four 4TB drives, configured in a RAID 1 configuration, but I am open to other configurations.
As you said that you have several SSDs which you will be using for cache so I am assuming that you are planning to use XFS with journal residing on SSDs. If that is correct then you will get pretty good for performance. :-) . Why you want to go with RAID 1, though it will give you redundancy but only half of it will be available for storage. Instead you can go with RAID 5.
Actually, I was hoping that I would use one SSD for the root FS and a second possibly for caching, depending upon how I might implement that.
RAID5 is certainly on the table, particularly if I go beyond two drives. At this point, I am considering either two or four drives. With two, RAID 5 may not be a good choice. Also, RAID 5 drives can take a long time to build, and I understand that some have recommended against them for that reason.
