quota on ubuntu 8.04
I just set up quota for our fileserver, and I was wondering about edquota -u and edquota -g. I don't want to have to set a quota for every single student. So if I run edquota -g students, and set the soft limit to say 690000, will that mean that each user in group 'students' will have a soft limit of 690MB?
Or is it that the group has a combined limit of 690?

My understanding is the group quota is a combined limit. But according to the man page the -p option is specifically for duplicating an existing user's quota for other users. So that you set up one account using the -u option and then I believe you can issue one command to duplicate this to all the other accounts. (You can list multiple user names on one instance of the command.) If you have so many users that that is still too much work I would think you could script it.

After doing this you could verify what you did by checking a couple of the user accounts you just changed.

Note: I am just reading from the man page. I haven't done this myself.
