Quick Question About Ram

Hello I have a debian web server running and was wondering about something. If you look here you'll notice my ram is 97% used. Out of 512mb of ram 487.07 is used. I don't understand the cause for this. Is there any way to flush out the ram without hurting anything or is there anything I can do?

Thanks,

nomb

You'll notice a lot of that is buffers and cache, so you don't need to worry about it. Here look at mine:
$ free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 516452 483768 32684 0 108980 66284
-/+ buffers/cache: 308504 207948
Swap: 506008 111180 394828

I've only got 32MB free and mine always runs like a champ with more services than I care to mention. So don't worry, it's fine.

This is normal. Linux uses all the RAM it has before using swap, and whatever RAM isn't used by applications it will use for buffers and cache. If you start swapping significantly, then you may need more RAM.

Absolutely.

unused RAM is wasted RAM, not the opposite.
