Query with Syslog server

Hi LQ Folks,

I have a very small query regarding the Syslog server which is as under.

I have 2 servers Serv1 and Serv2 and i want to send logs of serv1 to serv2, i am able to do that but the thing is that the logs are going to default file..

Like i am sending ssh logs of serv1 to serv2 but the logs are being appended to default /var/log/secure file on serv2. What i want is to create a new file on the serv2. So could you please let me know how can i do that.

This is how i am doing in my syslog.conf on serv1

.authpriv @192.168.1.5:/var/log/remote_ssh_log

I have also given the write permission on /var/log folder.

So could you please let me know if i am missing something.

Please forgive if i am missing some realy silly thing, i am pretty new to linux.

Thanks in advance.

With syslog-ng it’s quite easy. But you are using either syslog or rsyslog - which of them?
