Cool proftpd can't completely connect

Ok I have a linux server that has proftpd installed,

I want it setup to that I have to use 2 ipaddresses

1 for ssh only

2) for sftp only

the problem is when I ssh or sftp to one of the ipaddress #1 both the connections work (ssh & sftp)

but when I connect to the second one with either command it connects but when I enter a password it just hangs.

how do I fix this

First, you probably don't need proftpd installed. openssh-server has its own sftp server included.

Second, what distro and version do you have installed? That can make a difference in ssh's capabilities.

Third, what have you done so far to try and make this work?

Talking ssh version

Ok I have

Code:
ssh -V
SSH Version Sun_SSH_1.0, protocol versions 1.5/2.0.
and I can't upgrade it, on my server I have

Code:

      ssh -V
OpenSSH_5.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8h 28 May 2008
when I try to run:

Code:
sftp 10.2.10.26
Connecting to 1.1.1.1...
username@1.1.1.1' password:
Permission denied, please try again.
username@1.1.1.1's password:
it just hangs, what can I do about it

What distribution are you running? This would be something like Debian, Redhat, CentOS, Suse, etc.
