Problem with yum on CentOS (Trixbox)

Hello,

When trying to run 'yum update' or 'yum install' i get the following message:
Quote:
# yum update
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, kmod
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
YumRepo Error: All mirror URLs are not using ftp, http[s] or file.
Eg. <html><body><h1>It works!</h1></body></html>/
removing mirrorlist with no valid mirrors: /var/cache/yum/base/mirrorlist.txt
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: base
Can anybody help me, this is a clean install of Trixbox (2.8.0.4).

Thanks,
Jordan Cook

it's spelt "trixbox" not "Trixbox". I actually had an argument with on of their heads as they were so anal about how it's spelt, their website says how it is spelt before they even say what it is.

But anyway. What is in the repo mirror file?

Thanks for the quick response, I assume you mean the /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo

Here it is:
Quote:
[base]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Base
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch&repo=os
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/os/$basearch/

exclude=kernel*

that is a bit of an odd *.repo file?
I take it you edited it before?
there are commands missing

" enabled=1"

the file should look like this
Code:
[base]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Base
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch&repo=os
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/os/$basearch/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-5
exclude=kernel*

#released updates
[updates]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Updates
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch&repo=updates
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/updates/$basearch/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-5
exclude=kernel*

#packages used/produced in the build but not released
[addons]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Addons
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch&repo=addons
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/addons/$basearch/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-5
exclude=kernel*

#additional packages that may be useful
[extras]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Extras
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch&repo=extras
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/extras/$basearch/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-5
exclude=kernel*
and a question on the option "exclude=kernel*"
I take it you DO NOT want any security updates to the kernel ?
if so this WILL leave you vulnerable to having the machine hacked

OR
Are YOU building your own custom kernel with all the back-ported bug fixes .
