problem with IMAP server

hi all
i had installed rhel 5 in my system and i installed sendmail in it
i gone with webmail/squirrel mail service, am geeting interface when am trying to login its getting IMAP server connection refused may i get solution for it, i also enabled the protocols in /etc/dovecot.conf file

Are you sure dovecot is running? Run

Code:

service dovecot status

to check if it's running and

Code:

service dovecot start

to start it

yeah i checked service portmap status
its running
and i checked telnet localhost 143
telnet localhost 110
its running perfectly
am geeting problem in webmail i.e
web interface
IMAP server:110
connection refused

Hi,

imap is listening on port 143. If dovecot is running and listening on that port, you should read this to see how to configure squirrelmail to use dovecot as the imap server

but root user unable to login
other users can login in it

Glad to see it worked.
You should know that the root user cannot login into pop/imap due to security restrictions
