Problem in Sendmail


I configured a sendmail server ,
it works ok for receiving mails i.e i can telnet it on 110 port with easy
but while sending mail it get slow even a test message ,
telnet on 25 port is slow ,
what reason should be there that make it slow , pls help

Maybe DNS is misconfigured and DNS lookups are slow or failing? Do you see any clues in /var/log/maillog?
