Prevent DKMS from blocking

Hello,

While booting, the system was trying to load a kernel module. It failed and the whole bootup stopped which meant that it was no longer possible to start the machine.

With a live CD, I tried to remove what was trying to load the module but did not find it (I looked in /etc/modules and /etc/rc*d) so I erased the module that caused the problem.

Now, when I try to boot, I have the following error message:

Running DKMS auto-installation service for kernel ... [ OK ]

and everything stops.

How could I solve this problem?
How could I prevent DKMS to block the bootup or to try to build that module?

Thank you!

Try booting with the live CD again, find the DKMS file in /etc/init.d,
and put in a new first line containing "exit 0". This will allow your
system to boot normally. Of course this is just a band aid until you
find and fix the real problem.

You could uninstall DKMS and whatever requires it and try again. This
will at least let you know what module is having problems and you can
watch more carefully as dkms runs the first time.

Thank you very much for your reply.

But I reinstalled the system. I tried some other things, with a live CD, to prevent DKMS from starting but it made everything worse. So I reinstalled it. But thank you. I will know for the next time.
