Postfix Virtual Mailbox configuration
 

Hi,

I have configured a mail server with postfix/dovecot which acts a mail gateway for internal emails. The same email addresses are configured on our mail server on the net.
My gateway uses fetchmail to download mails from the mail server as well as relaying outgoing mails through the mail server.

I have a situation where some email addresses are only configured on the internet mail server and not my gateway.
Whenever a local person tries to send a mail to that address the smtp client returns back that the email address does not exist in the server.
How can I resolve this problem?

With your fetchmail setup you will need addresses on both sides, if your internet server was just a relay host then you would not need to configure users on both sides.

I am already doing that for fetching mail.

The email addresses in the local mail gateway have all got corresponding email addresses in the web server.
So any mail addressed to example.com from inside the local area network gets processed at the local end and never reaches the web server.

How can I setup an exception to that rule so that for some cases the mails addressed to 1@example.com is forwarded to the web server.

I am a little confused here.....

Can I setup the same domain as hosted and alias?
I already have setup example.com as a hosted domain.
Some users need to travel. During that time I would like them to access their mails from the web server as the local mail gateway does not have internet visibility.
