postfix and dovecot - email files in var/vmail

Hi

i have to transfer all domains etc etc to another server after a distupgrade from ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 went unstable and partially stopped working.

I have found that all emaildata is in /var/vmail where emails are saved in readable text the content of every email looks exactly like an eml-file just the name of the file is a lot of nuumbers, the servername and some parameters(?).

Can one copy these files to a new server where the same email-address is made, will that work?

i was a bit unsure but will try it today with an unimportant email-account.
