Port on CanYouSeeMe works, in Browser doesn't
Hi, I'm trying to set up apache on my public ip. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 going through a Linksys befw11s4. I'm serving up webpages on port 8050. On my Ubuntu server I can reach the pages fine using: localhost, private ip, and public ip. Canyouseeme.org also reports that port 8050 is open on my public ip. Yet, I cannot figure out why when actually browsing from outside the network I cannot connect to the server. Any ideas? Thanks!

What ISP do you use, you will find that nearly all ISPs block inbound connections

It's comcast and you're right. When using common ports such as 80 or 8080, CanYouSeeMe.org would report the ports as closed. Though as I say, port 8050 is shown as open...

Hmm fair point,
Try going to http://ping.eu/ and run their port check tool and see if you get the same result, then try the Traceroute tool see where your requests are dying.
Also have you disabled IP-Tables/Firewall on the box and on the router, then can sometime behave oddly with non-standard ports.

At ping.eu port is shown as open, and request goes all the way through on traceroute. Iptables are clear on my server. What may be is a firewall on the linksys befw11s4 router that cannot be disabled. I may have to put the server in dmz which I didn't want to have to do. Does anybody have any experience with the firewall on this router? Thanks for the help!
