Ping


Hi,

It my first linux installation, it went well, but I have a problem ping the HOSTname from anywhere else i.e windows browser. What do I need to do or doing wrong.

Are you sure you're online? If you're trying to ping localhost, you'll get a response even if only "lo" (the dummy interface) is configured (which is the case by default); check (as root or by using sudo) ifconfig to see if you've actually got an IP. Some other reasons could be restrictive firewall settings or restriction within your network concerning incoming traffic on port 80 (i.e. webservers could be forbidden). But I guess it's got something to do with network configuration.
