Question PHP and/or Apache to Log Directly to remote syslog?

Hi All,

From what i've been looking about for and around at there is no method with Apache 2.2.x or PHP 5.3.x to send logs via direct TCP to a remote log server?

The only methods i've seen are that you first have to capture the log locally with something such as "syslog" (or other) and then forward on using the TCP capabilities of the "syslog" type daemon.

Is that really it? The other thing I notice is that performance drops considerably when sending php logs to syslog by setting error_log in php.ini as syslog. Does anyone else see this?

Thanks,
M

Depends, you can just send anything to port 514 on the remote syslog server and it will be recorded. You can even use telnet to create a remote entry (maybe a fsockopen in PHP) this way.
