Outgoing Email Issues: Qmail and Mutt

Hello,

As usual I've spent hours trying to figure out this problem but find myself having to post a question in order to find a solution after much toil.

I'm running a Linux Fedora 1 server. One of the main applications that the server runs is periodic email warning messages from a java application.

I've found that utilizing mutt distributes the warning messages the best executing it from java.

The distribution of email works fine most of the time but it seems when large numbers of messages are being sent out a number of errors happen. At times 1000's of email can be distributed within minutes.

1) Occasionally I get this error message
qmail-inject: fatal: qq trouble creating files in queue (#4.3.0)

2) Users get multiple messages

3) Messages users receive should have been sent to another user, and even in the email header the intended email address is contained but for some reason ends up at the unintended

My suspicions are that somehow qmail queue is becoming over loaded and messages are becoming intermixed. Its the only thing I think of to explain this.

I've reinstalled qmail, qmail-qstat produces
messages in queue: 0
messages in queue but not yet preprocessed: 294

"messages in queue but not yet preprocessed:" just gets bigger.

If anyone has an idea of where I can start to resolve this I would appreciate it

Thanks very much

The request for log entries is pretty reasonable.

would the qmail log file be the best thing to look at? Does mutt have a log file?

It's unlikely to be a mutt issue. Probably /var/log/maillog or similar (sorry, a while since I've seen FC1)
