openvz guests

hi there,

suppose my host OS will be ubuntu 8.04, and the virtualization method will be openvz.
can the guest os be ubuntu 9.04 or has the guest linux version to be the same as the one of the host?

or could I even have a other distro running as a guest?

You can have other distros, so long as they're all Linuxes, since they're all using a single kernel.
