notificatioin of server status


anyone know of a script/free utility that will check my linux server to see if the server is online and if its not responding then notify me via e-mail?

(curl http://myserver.com | grep "page title or something") || (echo server myserver.com down!! | mail -s PANIC! dave@myserver.com)

should do the job.

i put that script in cron.hourly and its running but it keeps telling me the server is down yet its not...any ideas what i can do to fix that?
