Angry Not able to change passwd as normal user !!! Please help


Hi ,

I am facing problem with one of the Redhat box, as a normal user iam not able to change my own passwordd, it gives me the prompt for password then after giving my original passwordd it suddnely throws the error
"passwd: Authentication token manipulation error" but after switiching to root i can change the password.

Did anyone came across these kind of problems ? ? Please help

OS is RedHat EL 4

looks like passwd has not suid bit set

which passwd|xargs ls -la

and should look like this:

-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 29104 2008-04-03 03:08 /usr/bin/passwd

and if you need to add the "suid" just run: which passwd|xargs chmod u+s

and this should work.
