NIS Service - ypserv could not start

HI,

One of the NIS services could not start. I found out when:

# service ypserv start

#rpcinfo -u localhost ypserv
rpcinfo: RPC: Program not registered.
Program 100004 is not available.

I have started portmap earlier and has done chkconfig portmap on. Because of this issue, none of the users cant login into their workstation. Can someone please help.

Thanks.

Probably this line will help you

http://www.usenet-forums.com/linux-n...irst-time.html

content cut short for convenience of users:

this is because the server listens on the ip your ethernet card has. And
this is not 127.0.0.1 what localhost is.
It makes no sense to use the NIS for the localmachine who has all
information that can requested via NIS.
