newbie question--where's my cgi-bin?

Hi. I'm trying to setup slackware so I can at least test my perl scripts. Apache is running, but I'm not sure where to save my scripts. Here's what I have:

/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi

I tried saving to /var/www/cgi-bin but I can't write there, even though I belong to the owner group and that group has write permission.

Am I totally in the outfield?

The apache cgi directory is in fact /var/www/cgi-bin
You must be root in order write in that directory. And don't forget to set the execute bit in your scripts
