im new to linux and its my first thread


i have CentOS_5.1
Linux sanshiro 2.6.24 #2 SMP Fri Feb 15 20:03:34 AST 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

i compiled the kernel myself

i made my iptables script seccessfully

im brosing now from my laptop that is attached to the box local NIC

and i setup a simple samba share without authentication , and im still lookin how to make it authenticated ,but this is not the subject
and here is the smb.conf so you poeple can enjoy it

[global]
workgroup = your workgroup
netbios name = ur hostname
security = share

[share]
comment = Data
path = /export # your shred folder
force user = wbc # u have to creat this user in the folowing
force group = users # group $ useradd wpc -c /home/wpc -g users
read only = no
guest ok = Yes

additional commands :

# smbpasswd -a wpc
# mkdir /export
# chmod u+rwx,g+rx,o+rx /export
# chown wpc.users /export

ok now , here is the issue

1- now after that when i put the server address 10.0.0.1 as a DNS for my laptop i dont get resolving for the URL's
when i put my ISP DNS address resolving goes fine

2- i made my squid.conf but when i start the service i get this:

init_cache_dir /var/spool/squid/cach... Starting squid: [FAILED]

any advice would be appreciated

You are trying to setup squid here or what?

I am asking because first you talking about your samba config and then you have problems with DNS.

If you need advice on squid I`d would open a new thread with a title that says `need squid advice` or something to that effect.
