need solution for linux client to authenticat linux samba pdc server

I have a samba pdc server in Redhat el4 .It is configured only samba not ldap.The windows client is added into the domain noproblem.But i have ubuntu desktop also .I dont know how to bring linux client to get authentication from linux samba pdc (fedora or redhat or ubuntu client).Samba is implemented as reaming profile also.Please give me sugesstion.I am strugling for long time.

The user on the Ubuntu system needs to connect as a user
on the RH system. If you haven't already done this, you'll
need to run smbpasswd on the RH box to set up the authentic
-ation for that user.

Next you'll need to use the username and password from
the RH system for authentication when you connect on
your Ubuntu system.
