I have some activity for replacing storage for our production servers.
the server has SAN bootable disk, which need to replace with new storage disk. all OS partitions are in lvm except boot.
any one had experience about it ? please suggest , what the way I should take. I do not want to use pvmove for backup plan.

With no details, there is NOTHING we can tell you. You say nothing about hardware, environment, version/distro of Linux, what other resources you have available to you, or why you can't use pvmove. You've been active here for well over TEN YEARS now, so you have at least that much experience with Linux and being an administrator...what have you done/tried so far, and what is your CURRENT plan to do this? You've obviously got previous experience with clusters, LVM, and SAN's, based on your posting history: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ed-4175612558/ https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...em-4175607916/
I was looking generic help. by the way, here are the details.
OS - rhel 5
OS hardware - HP ProLiant DL 380
old storage - emc
new storage- IBM
pvmove is not looking, because if any roll back required , then there will be no data on old storage.
however, there is one partition /boot , is not on on lvm.

Ok, we'll suggest as we have many times in the past:
You UPGRADE FROM RHEL 5, since it's very old.
You PAY FOR RHEL, if you're going to use it
You contact IBM/EMC/HP support, since you're paying for THAT as well
..and follow ALL their advice.
Can't be more plain. What you're asking isn't trivial, and is a PERFECT time for you to upgrade your server, pay for support, and get into a stable, secure environment. You have been here for ELEVEN YEARS now, and if you're the administrator, you need to be taking your job seriously. Sorry to sound harsh, but using RHEL 5 in 2018 is incredibly irresponsible. Using RHEL without paying for it, is similarly bad, because you won't get security updates or bugfixes, since you won't have access to the RHEL repositories.
