Question Need help finding a good Tutorial for setting up GFS2 on Centos5!!!

Hello there Linux World,

I am getting frustrated to the fact that I am in charge of developing a Enterprise class solution for my company and I don't find the right answer on the WWW.

I have 3 mail servers that I want them to share a Global File System (GFS) that will be mounted via ISCSI on a RAID1+0 SAN Md3000i device. All the documentation that RHEL offers include the setup of DRDB or VLS Clustering.

My intentions are not to setup clustering on these servers, at least for now, however I want them to share access to the same block device, giving enough write/read access throughput .

My question is, have you done something like this ?

Do you know of any good Tutorial that you tried, and worked for you ?

Thank you for reading this thread and posting any reply that will help me will be appreciated.

Sincerely,

CubanCracker.

Did you try to look on the CentOS site?
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5....l_File_System/

Should get you started. If you're not going to cluster things, though, I'm not sure I see the benefit of having three systems share one disk location, especially for mail. The only real benefit to GFS is instant failover so clusters are more fault tolerant.

Tbone,

Thank you for your quick reply, yes I have been searching for a while now; and I also went to the official documentation of RED HAT over the GFS. But they don't provide with a Tutorial on how to set this up. I am not an expert of Linux, so I need documentation on how to get this done, like installing , starting the service , and what conf files need to be configured.

I am not sure that what I want to do is what I need either?, I just have a MD300i with 15 SAS drives that are going to be the primary storage for this mail servers. I need them to share that storage cause that is for mail spooling/logs. I know I can use NFS, but I was looking for a more Enterprise solution, so I came across this GFS; cause someone mentioned to me.

I know that GFS works well with DRDB on a cluster environment, but I am not sure that I want this servers clustered; at least for now. If you know of someone setting this up on at least two servers, and that have example or guide on how to do it that is explicitly what I need to learn.

If I am thinking wrong, or what I want to do is not Best practice also I will appreciate if you help me clear my thoughts.

Thank you again, for your kind response.

Sincerely,

CubanCracker.
