I'm planning to purchase the Aspire Easystore H340 Home Server which sadly comes with Windows Server. I am planning to replace windows with either Debian or RH or SuSe - any suggestions?
My issue is that I'm just starting out with NAS so I don't have much of previous experience with it. I'm not certain how to setup NAS administration. Are there any web applications like on QNAP devices that can allow me to administer the system, users, permissions, directories, ect. or am I limited to SSH and doing everything from there?
Why buy home server when you can make one with any comp by isntalling linux on it and getting couple of 1 TB drives:| If your looking for accessing your music, movies, audiobooks from web you can try installing ampache or media hive :. for my Media server am currently using fedora10 just fine tuned it little bit removed apps that i dont require and install iceWM,i am planning to test Freenas ,donno how it works. As eric said you can try webmin another great application.

Well I was looking to make a box with hot swappable hdds with atom cpu. After finding all the parts, it comes out to about the same price as the acer - but with a nicer box...so that is the only reason for purchasing it.
I'm testing out freenas on vm setup at the moment, so far so good! yet for myself, I'd like debian or other linux system as I would like to have quick access to some features...which freenas lacks at the moment
