mysql, phpmyadmin and Xen on Ubuntu 7.04 64bit

I'm having a problem running phpmyadmin on a xen guest.

I have an Ubuntu 7.04 64bit host
and an Ubuntu 7.04 64bit guest.
I installed apache2, mysql-server and phpmyadmin by typing:

sudo apt-get install mysql-server phpmyadmin

and all appeared to be fine.
However, when i fire up a web browser on the host, point it to the
address of the guest (192.168.0.50/phpmyadmin) i get the phpmyadmin
logon page. I try and login as root and i get a:

Error #1045 - Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

message. Fair enough, i added a password for root, restart apache and mysql
and i get the same error.

I assume that phpmyadmin is running as www-data but other than that, i'm lost.

Anyone able to point me to where i'm being an idiot ?

Problem is with Phpmyadmin/Mysql configuration.

1. Have you done proper settings in phpmyadmin/config.inc.php ?

Quote:
Sample file
<?php
/*
* Generated configuration file
* Generated by: phpMyAdmin 2.9.2 setup script by Michal ÄihaÅ <michal@cihar.com>
* Version: $Id: setup.php 9484 2006-10-03 13:11:22Z nijel $
* Date: Fri, 06 Apr 2007 05:29:33 GMT
*/

/* Servers configuration */
$i = 0;

/* Server localhost (config:root) [1] */
$i++;
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = 'localhost';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysql';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['port'] = '3306';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket'] = '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress'] = false;
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'h3nasd3$5';

/* End of servers configuration */

?>
Please read http://192.168.0.50/phpmyadmin/Docum...#quick_install.

Mostly you have "www-root" in place of "root" in $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'].

Update us with your findings.

I apologize! In the end, I lost patience with it so we'll never know :-)

I went through my configs and i could not find any reference to wwww-data.

So, I copied a fresh base xen guest, apt-get install mysql-server apache2 phpmyadmin

and everything worked a treat, grrrr.

I have no idea what is different this time but it gets me to where i want to be.

I do appreciate your help though Pratik,

Snouty
