mysql ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password:


Hi forum,

I have installed mysql on my centos 5.2 server. When I try to change the password of mysql root user it give me following error.

my command is : # mysqladmin -u root password mypassword

ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password:

I don't know what is exact issue.

Apparently I would say that the old password seems wrong.
Are you sure that you access to the MySQL database with that password?
I do not see any other possible trouble ...

Hi.

When first installed, the mysql root user doesn't have a password - have you tried logging in with no password?

Try mysqladmin -u root -p mypassword, or even mysqladmin -u root -p, which will then prompt you for the password for root. It has been my experience with MySQL that it doesn't like the password in line when using the monitor.
