The first post shows Apache and MySQL consuming a lot of CPU time, if it was due to a backup or updatedb you would see these processes consuming all the resources in top.

I can't see how restarting Apache or MySQL would have had that sort of result. The machine had only been up 10 minutes when you posted your initial post.

It is entirely possible you were the victim of a specific kind DOS attack, looking back through Apache's logs will tell you that

It may be possible that it was a DoS attack, after all my website belongs to a government entity.

I'm just an assistant (the manager was on vacation), but I want to know where I could find out if it was a DoS attack.

As I say, is so weird and I cannot explain it. But I will ask the admin if he has made another thing.

I talk to an administrator. He has replaced the entire virtual machine Centos 32-bit to a "Ubuntu Sever 10.10" and has installed the apache in worker mode and fast-cgi php. He has made in the weekend.

Bone in the end the solution was to change the OS. XD
