Move SuSe 10 SP1 hard drive to new(er) server

Hi all -

Quick question. We have a server running on an IBM blade running SuSe 10 SP1. We now have a faster (more memory, more processors, faster processors) blade that is empty in the same bladecenter. If I were to just simply move the hard drive from the slower blade to the faster blade, will SuSe recognize this and be able to utilize the faster hardware? Or would I have to do any kind of recompiling, etc to get it to use the faster hardware?

Hi VeeDubbs,

It would depend on how similar the hardware is, HS20 -> HS40 would probably be fine, HS20 -> HS21 maybe not. You'll just have to give it a go, maybe try it with an image rather than the original disks though

If the new blade is the same processor type it will be fine. Processor type being x86, x64, PPC, ....
