Media server and ZFS

I am in the process of building a media using ubuntu server, with kodi, an it will have 2 hard drives in it! What would be the pros and cons of using ZFS yay nay?

I've never used ZFS on Ubuntu, but it's solid on FreeNAS, FreeBSD, and Solaris.

The only time I've had issues was when I was using it on my root file system on Arch Linux, and I had to install it from an experimental 3rd-party repository. Every time the package updated, I couldn't boot and I would have to go and fix something.

I get the impression that if the OS officially supports it, it works great. If not, it's a lot of work.

Pretty much all that is known about ZFS is on the wiki pages. Some linux users seem to hate it because of the way Sun/Oracle lets users have access to it.

ZFS and Btrfs are not typical like ext or fat filesystems. They have the ability to be less tied to physical media. You make pools and use it that way. Snapshots and raid are built in to the filesystem as well as ways to repair on the fly.

For most people the pluses are many however the minuses are kind of big. Some tools are missing. Some speed tests are less that stellar. Some overhead may be too much for your kodi nas.

Because you ask then I'd also suggest no. If you mismanage ZFS it will have no value.

However, if you set it up right there are many advantages. Some info https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/zfs.html

You'd have to describe why you want those types of features on this server. This filesystem works better on many disks or media. Kind of a corporate type filesystem.
