Question mdadm growing, possible mistake?

Hi,

I was following this guide on how to grow my mdadm array. I issued the command

mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sde

Followed by

mdadm --grow /dev/md0 --raid-devices=5

But once issuing "cat /proc/mdstat" i get

Personalities : [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
md0 : active raid6 sde[4] sda1[0] sdd1[3] sdc1[2] sdb1[1]
3907023872 blocks super 0.91 level 6, 16k chunk, algorithm 2 [5/5] [UUUUU]
[>....................] reshape = 0.0% (1078448/1953511936) finish=5172.6min speed=6289K/sec

I have done nothing else to this stage, my question is what will the effect of me adding and growing with /dev/sde rather then /dev/sde1 have? Is this going to be a bad thing, and can i do anything about it?

Thanks for your time

I guess you created partitions in your other disks before adding them into the array. If you were using the whole disk anyway, you did not need to a create partition on them. Well, as for the effect of adding the raw disk /dev/sde into the array, it should be no problem at all.

Other than maybe confusing yourself in the future.
