Maildir++: set file date from email content

Apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn't find it on this site or using Google.

We have been using Dovecot for a small email server with public folders for many years. The emails are stored in maildir++ standard (i.e. not fs) format. Recently we moved to a VS service and (foolishly) I transferred all the archived emails (about 30Gb) overnight using scp.

Only later did I realise that this will set the date / time of the emails to the date / time they were transferred rather than using the date / time embedded in the email itself.

Does anyone know of a script that will traverse a maildir++ tree and 'touch' the file date to that stored within the email?
