mail delivered but cannot display

I have Suse 10.3 running with procmail. I am finally able to send emails. Received emails are logged (/var/log/mail) so they are getting through ISP firewall, my router and my local firewall, but I am unable to retrieve the with Evolution. Likewise I cannot deliver local emails either.
Please tell me the missing link ...

Thanks, JQ

I assume that evolution can't read mail files directly, so you'll need an imap or pop server. imap probably makes more sense, but in either case, dovecot is probably the simplest I've used.

Try installing dovecot with yast and it will probably work out of the box - you can then just tell evolution to set up a new imap account and off you go
