Low-Power NAS -- ZyXEL or Synology?
Hello all,
I'm looking for a low-cost NAS with a very low power draw, and a couple of devices have caught my attention. On my desktop machine I'm running Debian squeeze, and rarely, if ever, actually use Windows. The Synology DS210j looks like it has everything, all kinds of services one could ever want, but on the other hand, the ZyXEL NSA210 costs half as much and comes in at a close second.
Do any of you have any experience with either device? In particular, I'm wondering what it's like to use the ZyXEL NSA210 with a linux system. I know it's running linux 2.6.24 underneath, but I'm wondering what it's like to interact with the device. Can you ssh into the box and manage it just as if it were a regular PC? The fact that you have to have Windows running just to add new drives to it makes me a tad apprenhensive.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
