lost root password/disabled keyboard

I lost the root password and am trying to reset it. Was told to enter "init=/bin/bash" in the Boot Options screen. When hitting the enter key to proceed to the next step, the keyboard gets disabled. How do I keep the keyboard enabled to proceed to the next step of changing the root password?

It might be an issue with using a USB keyboard? Try with a PS/2 keyboard if you have one handy. Or boot from a live CD instead.

Restart the machine press e when the startup screen displays, then choose 2nd option & again press e. A shell will be displayed, setup a new passwd here using passwd root command & reboot the system. Now u can login on your machine.
