Logs and Mysql data - last 7 days disappeared!

Hi there,

On my production server, I have experienced issues this morning. It seemed at first related to Mysql.

I rebooted the server once. Then still had issues with Mysql. Then I rebooted it again and everything seems fine on that end now. I can access Webmin and Phpmyadmin again.

However, things are not looking good.

Not only logs are missing from the 27th of June 18h25 but also all my Mysql databases are truncated so that only the data before that date are included. Even more weird, when I logged this morning, I could see the database backup files generated this morning at 8h15, but after the 2nd reboot, those files had also disappeared leaving me only with the DB backup files from before the 27th of June!!!

So do you know what is happening there?

I can understand why logs files would be missing, but having Mysql database go back 7 days back in time without reason and backup files disappear is just crazy.

Final note: the server has the correct time and date.

Thanks for your help!

Did you stop the database before rebooting?

Maybe you have a serious filesystem corruption, or, equally if not more likely, your system has been compromised.

Run all filesystem checks.

What is it, Ext3 or Ext4?
With Ext4 (journaling FS) you might be able to regain the data.
