Local Server Timeout

I recently setup a small server in my house, using an old Celeron 533Mhz 256MB RAM that I had lying about. It's nothing powerful but it does its job well (which is mainly seeding torrents).

Anyway, the only thing that annoys me about it is that when I haven't accessed it for a while, I sometimes get timed out when connecting to it. I can simply reconnect but it is starting to become a pain.

I don't get any lag once connected since the server is only a few meters away. It seems like when it hasn't been accessed for a while, it'll shutdown the networking and restart when it's needed, but isn't fast enough to avoid the timeout.

Anyone else had any problems like this? How did you fix it?

Running Slackware 12.0 (but it has been upgraded to the current tree) and is as light as possible with no unneeded services running. The load average is always zero when nothing is running.
