Linux vs Windows Updates

Am I crazy or does linux have more updates on a weekly basis then MS Windows. I use many Linux distros and there are a million updates a week. Windoz has patch Tuesday and Linux has patch everyday schedule. I am sure that it is a good thing that things are being patched which resolves bugs in security and program functionality. Should I be worried?

why worry

bug found tuesday, patch made wednesday

in windows you have to wait till tuesday the next week to get the update

in linux(most distros) when the repos get updated and you connect to them, you get the security fix right then and there, no wait.

well windows is a smaller thing than a linux installation, as the linux side includes all the applications. Also depending on what distro you use their release policy will vary massively. Redhat have a more familiar update policy compared to Windows, making no major changes if possible and providing security updates primarily. With more community orientated distro's it's just general software developement that is pushed out, new features etc, things only done as service packs under windows.

Funny how I installed (Don't ask me why) Vista on my machine the other day and it took up about 17 GB while I have a full blown Debian Lenny install working on an 8 GB partiton with over 3 GB of memory space.

But yea, with the software side, since linux gives you the software via repository, it will update it when new versions come out. But also remember that most linux software hasn't even made an RC yet. Most Windows software is priprotity so it only releases as RC if bought or doesn't have you upgrade to beta, even if it is out, like AIM. If I remember right, wasn't like 2-3 months ago that Wine made its first RC and how long was that in usage with linux??
