linux newbie trying to set up a mail server

i have successfully set my linux proxy server up and it is working but now want to add a mail server ability to it, what i want is for this machine to collect mail from a pop box that is getting all website emails and then be able to have nodes running windows/outlook to be able to collect there relevent emails
didnt sound to hard when i thought of it but i am just completely lost
i configured postfix to collect mail for a single user but could not even get at that from a remote system HELP PLEASE

Postfix is an MTA (Mail Transport Agent) i.e. it moves mail from one place to another. Hint: you need to implement POP and IMAP ability so that you are able to send and receive mail. You now need to Google around and see if you can find a "howto" relevant to Mandriva that will help you do this.

If you have another mail server then edit your postfix main.cf;

relayhost=[mail.server.name]

That mail server should then deliver mail locally and externally.
